As part of the HSBC maintenance contract, works have recently been completed to the Stockton on Tees branch. The project spanned over 12 months and included stone repairs and repointing to the main stone facade and brickwork gables using hydraulic lime mortar. Stone and brickwork chimneys were dismantled, repaired and reconstructed together with structural strengthening works. Areas of failed masonry and lintels were repaired using helical bars and masonry beaming techniques.
The restoration and conservation elements of the project were carried out in consultation with the local Historic Buildings Officer who commented;
“I am very happy with the works to date, the contractor and workmen have an obvious understanding of traditional buildings and the processes and materials that need to be used”
